ARE THEY TRUE ?
The first thing that comes to our head when we say tattoos, are big biker dudes with one or two homicides on their names. Well, we cant blame you, as prison tattoo culture single handedly ushered the tattoo industry into fame.
But aside from convicts, tattoos in the modern day are a style statement. More and more people all over the world, are opening up to the idea of getting inked. With the sheer number of tattoo studios all over, there are certain misconceptions or pre emptive notions people have, that might or might not be true !
Today we explore such myths about the tattoo industry, lets dive deep into it
10. TATTOOS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE
Hmm, well, this is partly true ! it actually depends on where and what tattoo are you getting.
Here is a small example, at Lizard's skin tattoos, we meet all kinds of clients everyday.
The larger pieces are in some ways a little more cost effective than the smaller ones !
But then again, a good tattoo is not cheap and a cheap tattoo is not good !
09. TATTOOS GIVE YOU BLOOD CANCER
Let me cut to the chase here, ITS BULLCR*P !! Tattoos on the other hand have been credited for increasing immunity in people. This is how it works, when you get these microscopic punctures in your skin, it creates stress and this constant level of stress have been proven to be a key factor in raising your immunity (white blood cells).
So not only tattoos make you look more tough on the outside, they also make you tough on the inside.
08. YOU CANNOT DONATE BLOOD WITH TATTOOS
This is not entirely true, if a tattoo studio has proper sterilization, like Lizard's Skin Tattoos, you can donate blood. It entirely depends on where you get your tattoo, to be honest.
To be safe, a window of 2-3 months is something that we recommend.
07. TATTOOS ARE PROHIBITED IN THE ARMY
Let me surprise you by saying...its not true!
In the army tattoos are permitted as long as they are not visible through the uniform, as according to their code its a sign of being unruly or indisciplined. Visible tattoos can be detrimental as the enemy can easily mark or identify a soldier through their ink.
So next time you get a half sleeve or a back piece done, your chances to join the army are still as good as gold.
06. YOU CANT GET WATER ON YOUR TATTOO
Yes it is true, for fresh tattoos, but as your tattoo heals over time, there is no reason to avoid them. You have to be extra cautious with a fresh one though, as direct water contact can hinder the healing process.
05. IT BLEEDS A LOT !
Nope ! not true, there's actually very less bleeding that goes on during the process, even if you do bleed initially, it generally stops later in the process.
That being said, there are cases where people take Aspirins or Alcohol to numb the pain, where bleeding is an avoidable scenario. These compounds are usually blood thinners and can lead to a lot of bleeding.
Which brings me to the next point
04. ALCOHOL AND PAINKILLERS CAN NUMB THE PAIN
Contrary to this popular myth alcohol and painkillers can actually make things a lot worse.
Pain killers like Aspirin, provide numbing effect inside the body, but when it comes to needle punctures in your skin it is quite in effective!
Not only that, alcohol maked your blood thin, which in turn makes your skin bleed a lot.
At Lizard's Skin Tattoos we usually recommed all our clients not to drink alcohol 24 hours before a session, as not only it increases the chances of bleeding, but it might be difficult for the artist to work on intricate details because of the bleeding.
03. TATTOOS STAY ON FOREVER
Philosophically, sure. But in today's day and age and with the advancements in technology, it is quite possible to remove tattoos. There plethora of ways through which you can remove your tattoos, the most popular being laser removal.
02. SHADING HURTS MORE THAN LINING
It is true, but then again people have different pain thresholds. Overall tattoos are a little painful, shading might top it a bit more as it happens once the lining is done. Like they say 'No Pain No gain'
01. PEOPLE WITH TATTOOS CANT GET A JOB
Although in some industries there are strict guidelines against tattoos, we are seeing a steady change. In some creative industries tattoos are welcome, as they often show the expressive or the creative side of the person concerned. Even in corporate industries, tattoos are now a common thing, although its not as crazy or rampant. But people with tattoos can get a job nonetheless.
